Alden, IA 50006 Dear 2017 Miss Alden Contestant: Welcome to the 2015 Miss Alden Contest! This letter will provide you with important information regarding the schedule of events for this year’s Contest. A downloadable PDF copy of these rules and requirements are available here. 1) Application A questionnaire form for the Miss Alden Contest can be obtained from City Hall, downloaded as a PDF here or filled out at right. Please complete the questionnaire and return to Alden City Hall along with your essay, postmarked no later than May 15th, 2015. Failure to return the questionnaire and essay on time will result in disqualification. If there are less than three contestants entered at the deadline, the coordinators reserve the right to extend the deadline or cancel the contest. The questionnaire of the 2017 Miss Alden Contest will be sent to the Hardin County Fair Queen selection committee. 2) Judging Criteria The 2015 Miss Alden will be selected from the following criterion: Personal Interview 10 Points Impromptu Questions 10 Points Overall Poise & Presentation 10 Points Leadership & Citizenship 10 Points Contribution to Community 10 Points Essay: What are your feelings in regards to political campaigns and the standards politicians use to win elections in the U.S.? 50 Points *There is no right or wrong answer on the essay. It is meant to be thought provoking. 3) Prizes All contestants will receive a commemorative 2015 Miss Alden piece of jewelry. All contestants will participate in the Alden Days activities including the Miss Alden Coronation during the opening events, Alden Days Parade and evening events at the Alden City Park. Miss Alden will receive a crown, sash, bouquet of flowers, scholarship and qualification for participation in the 2015 Hardin County Fair Queen Contest. Runner-up contestants will receive a small spray of flowers and smaller scholarships. Should Miss Alden be unable to complete her duties, the title, prizes and privileges will be exchanged with the first runner-up. 4) Judging Schedule of Events Judging of the 2015 Miss Alden contestants will be on Monday, June 1st, 2015, from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Community Room at the Alden Library. Dress attire for the judging should be semi-formal. 5) Ceremonies The 2015 Miss Alden will be crowned based on Alden Day Celebration Schedules. Contestants will wear formal attire at the Alden City Park and meet on the east side of the Alden City Park prior to coronation. Contestants need an escort for this ceremony. (Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers & boyfriends are acceptable.) 6) Participation in River Bend Rally Parade Miss Alden will need to be available for the River Bend Rally Parade during July 4th, 2015 and RAGBRAI July 21st, 2015. 7) Participation in the Hardin County Fair Queen Contest Miss Alden is expected to participate in the 2015 Hardin County Fair Queen Contest. Judging for the Hardin County Fair Queen Contest will take place July, 2015. Miss Alden will be expected to participate in the Hardin County Fair Parade and Coronation Ceremonies in July, 2015. The Hardin County Fair Queen is expected to fulfill duties during the Hardin County Fair and represent Hardin County as a contestant for Iowa State Fair Queen competition in Des Moines, August 2015, through the time of crowning. The Iowa State Fair Queen is expected to fulfill duties during the Iowa State Fair. Interpretation of rules and decisions pertaining to the Hardin County Fair Queen Contest and the Iowa State Fair Queen contest are reserved by those respective organizations. a. Each contestant must be 16 years of age and not more than 18 years of age as of September 1, 2015. (Sophomore, Junior or Senior) b. Contestants must be unmarried and must have never been married or have children. c. Contestants must live in Alden or Alden Township. d. Contestants must be an active member of their school or community: i.e. church program or group, school groups, Girls Scouts, 4-H, FFA, athletic team, band, choir, etc. e. No professional model is eligible. f. The judging panel will consist of two non-residents and one community resident. g. Eligibility, interpretation of rules and contest decisions announced by the coordinators are final! h. Title can only be won once. Thank you for your participation in the 2017 Miss Alden Contest.
